Performance Assembly Solutions (P.A.S.) featured in International Automotive Magazine for its outlook on ?Contract Manufacturing in the OEM?s?.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ?FEBRUARY 10, 2012 ? LIVONIA, MICH —
Performance Assembly Solutions (PAS) was recently featured in the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Actionline Magazine regarding its world renowned reputation as a leader in ?Contract Manufacturing? for complex integrated assemblies for the automotive OEM supply chain.
?PAS is a leader in the manufacturing of complex integrated assemblies based in Livonia MI. and the AIAG felt that with their excellent reputation and attention to quality that their perspective on what it takes to be a successful contract manufacturer in today?s OEM marketplace would be very insightful? stated the AIAG. ?We have been providing top quality Contract Manufacturing assembly solutions for the OEM?s since we opened our doors nearly 13 years ago? stated McGowan ?all the while silently performing critical manufacturing tasks as the Man Behind the Curtain?.
Who?s Behind Your Curtain?
Some OEMs find that partnering with a contract manufacturer can lead to greater flexibility in managing their manufacturing and assembly operations.

In the movie classic ?The Wizard of Oz?, Dorothy and the merry trio amble through the maze of adventures trying to find their ultimate destination. After following a multitude of paths, they happen upon the final chapter of hope when they locate and visit the Wizard of Oz. After uncovering the masterful Oz, it becomes apparent to them that the answer they sought lay before them the entire journey?they had the answer all of the time.
In the automotive industry today, the same premise exists. What seems to be a magical experience of getting to the final destination of a ?final product? entails multiple paths and explorations before the final solutions or answers become apparent. In most cases, the answer doesn?t require the ?Mighty Oz??it is knowledge you already possess.
Some companies are finding solutions by outsourcing to a contract manufacturer (CM). With a good CM, OEMs have the flexibility to contract a business to an external provider. The CM can be next door, in a different city, or across the country. In expanding global strategies, more OEMs are seeking out partners as a part of their broader recipe for success, as this strategy allows for increased research and development, while pursuing growth opportunities.
Staying competitive requires the strongest expertise in quality systems, with verification and validation throughout the entire build process. This requires the remastering of parts multiple times per day, ensuring that the error-proofing process is strictly adhered to and guaranteeing shipment of the highest quality product. As the OEM has invested millions into their products, the CM has invested to do the same with error-proofing systems, vision systems, etc., to ensure repeatable quality results.
Reviewing customer scorecards is a good starting place. Look for trends in performance that indicate stability and an organization with a solid culture of doing the right things consistently. In addition to meeting quality certifications like TS 16949, a CM?s quality ratings from their client base is a key indicator of how they have performed over the recent year and gives an accurate picture as to what their corporate culture dictates as the norm.
The tangible gains to an OEM from establishing a partnership with a professional CM can lead to satisfied customers, reduced fixed costs, and mitigation of risk. The intangible benefit, not often realized, is that your supplier partner is, by design, ?the man behind the curtain.? The CM has no desire to be in the limelight and will not compete against its OEM customer. The professional CM trusts that if they do what it takes to act like an owner, the OEM will come knocking again.
