Ben Carson has seen better days. It’s been nearly a year since the volatile detective was suspended from the NYPD for fatally shooting another undercover officer, an accident that not only cost him his job, but fueled the alcoholism and anger that has alienated his wife and kids and left him crashing on his sister’s couch in Queens. Desperate to pull his life together and reconnect with his family, Carson takes a job as a night watchman at the burned-out ruins of the Mayflower department store. As Carson patrols the eerie, charred remains of the store, he begins to notice something sinister about the ornate mirrors that adorn the Mayflower walls. Reflected in the gigantic shimmering glass are horrific images that stun Carson. Beyond projecting gruesome images of the past, the mirrors appear to be manipulating reality as well. When Carson sees his own reflection being tortured, he suffers the physical effects of his fractured visions. Suddenly the troubled ex-cop finds himself battling his personal demons and the ones that have hijacked his reflection, tormenting him with convulsions, spontaneous bleeding and near suffocation. But, a much deadlier threat looms, trapped within the mirrors and reflective surfaces. As Carson investigates the mysterious disappearance of a Mayflower security guard and its possible connection to his ghastly visions, he realizes that a malevolent, otherworldly force is using reflections as a gateway.

I work at a theater, and so I was able to get my hands on some film pieces from the Juno commercial, which I’m pretty for sure is the best movie ever made.

I also had to spend my entire afternoon watching my friends’ presentations of their mock funeral, and that really put a damper on my day. So, I thought that a fitting song for both Juno and a funeral would be

Best Movie Of Candidates

Best Movie of 2009 Candidates – Zombieland

Article by Movie Nut

Blood, guts, bullets and laughter – not exactly recipes you’d expect to see together in a film, and particularly not in a candidate for best movie of 2009. However, the film industry has a long history of intertwining the horror and comedy genres, albeit not always with great success. In fact, it can be argued that much of the time this combination occurs unintentionally. While the director and actors set out to make a genuinely scary horror movie, the audience sees it in a different light, finding laughter in the sheer ridiculousness of the plot or the terrible performances by the actors. Trust me when I say this is not the case with Zombieland.

With Zombieland it is clear from the very beginning that the writers, director and actors all had their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks when they created this film. Up and coming comedy actor Jesse Eisenberg, who made a name for himself in the cult hit Adventureland narrates the film, and we are introduced to the film by his character Columbus as he lays out the rules he uses to survive the harsh reality of a country overrun by flesh-eating zombies.

Eisenberg hits just the right note as a socially inept obsessive compulsive who has used his rule book to survive when 99.9% of an arguably more capable population has been wiped out. Yes, at times it seems like he learned his craft by watching Michael Cera in Arrested Development reruns, but he makes a pretty good straight man, with good comic timing.

However, as good as Eisenberg is, he is quickly overshadowed the first time Woody Harrelson’s Tallahassee appears on screen. Also socially inept, but in a completely different way, Tallahassee is an elite zombie-killing machine, and never shows a hint of fear no matter how many of the creatures he faces, dispatching them in a variety of different, but spectacularly violent, ways, using just about every weapon imaginable. In between killing zombies Tallahassee manages to squeeze in plenty of classic one-liners, several of which will live on in pop culture lore for years to come, proving he still has the comedic skills that we saw in the TV show Cheers and the cult bowling movie Kingpin. In a bizarre, but amusing, side story Tallahassee spends much of the movie in search of Twinkies, for which he has developed an inexplicable craving.

Filling out the cast are Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, a pair of young, but world-wise grifters who Tallahassee and Columbus run afoul of, and eventually fall into an uncomfortable partnership with.

All in all Zombieland is classic horror comedy, much in the same vein of the British favorite Shaun of the Dead. It is certainly destined to achieve cult status, and is one of the those rare movies that fans should own in their DVD (or Blu-ray) collection, because it can be watched over and over again. Yes, hardcore horror fans might be disappointed, but with a name like Zombieland there should be little doubt that this film has comedic elements.

If you love comedy movies, and aren’t turned off by violence and gore – this is a zombie movie after all – then definitely check Zombieland out. It might not have had the exposure that some of the year’s biggest movies enjoyed, but is a sleeper pick for the title of best movie of 2009.

Cinematographers Prepare For Expanded Role

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) February 19, 2012

Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC and Yuri Neyman, ASC call the combination of classic and virtual cinematography ?Expanded Cinematography.? They and their colleagues held last week the first ?Expanded Cinematography? demo classes offered by the Global Cinematography Institute that on the Virtual Stage One at Universal Studios. It proved a success: based on a survey (including veteran and emerging cinematographers who participated), classes have a 93.08% approval rate.

Regular classes ? the first session of the first course (out of four) – will start at the Universal Studios stage on March 17th. The application process is starting today on the Global Cinematography Institute website http://www.globalcinematography.com.

Students are very excited by the new opportunities to upgrade and enlarge their knowledge about the art of cinematography and new technologies. All of their responses have been very positive: ?At the Global Cinematography demo class, I feel history was made. Hearing the professionals talk about their passions was a true inspiration? (Lawrence Ribeiro, camera operator); ?The faculty and curriculum Yuri and Vilmos created is unique and invaluable. The amount of knowledge and experience they will bring to the program will undoubtedly bring the role of the cinematographer to another level? (Michal Dabal, Cinematographer, AFI graduate, class 2010); ?The depth and breadth of subjects to be covered will become invaluable in my career moving forward. The GCI is not just about theory. It is about history, real world experience, and hands on learning. An opportunity hard to pass up. (Tim Sutherland, Digital Images Technician, Local 600, Hollywood)

?The goal of the Global Cinematography Institute,? Yuri Neyman says, ?is to prepare cinematographers like postgraduate students and veteran filmmakers to take advantage of on-going advances in digital and virtual cinematography technologies.?

?Cinematography is an art which requires mastering a constantly evolving craft,? continues Vilmos Zsigmond. ?In order to learn new technology, people have to understand principles of the old technology. We go back to the beginning and teach the history of cinematography and the best way to use new technology to make movies. We can?t afford to forget the rules of filmmaking.

Yuri Neyman, ASC first came up with the idea of the Institute nearly three years ago when he was teaching course of History of Cinematography, a class he created at the AFI. Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC had also taught for many years a very successful master class in cinematography at the Budapest Film Seminar. Both Neyman and Zsigmond agreed that a great deal of cinematography knowledge was not being transmitted and that cinematographers need to be ready to handle the influx of digital tools on set.

The solution ? how both Vilmos and Yuri see it ? is to train people who could eventually be transformed from traditional Directors of Photography into the new category of Directors of Imagery. Professionals trained in both live and virtual cinematography that could be evenly versatile in computers, cinematography, and the artistic visual side of films and video games.

The Expanded Cinematography classes include Advanced Lighting for Feature Films, Cinematography for Music Videos, Digital Lighting and Previsualization, Digital Cinematography and 3-D Cinematography, Virtual Cinematography, On The Set Image Management, Postproduction Technology, The History of Cinematography & Photography, and more.

Other participants in the Global Cinematography Institute include cinematographers Affonso Beato, ASC, Bruno Delbonell, ASC, AFC, Daniel Pearl, ASC, Dante Spinotti, ASC, AIC, David Stump, ASC, Geoff Boyle, FBKS, James Chressanthis, ASC, James Mathers, DSC, Janusz Kaminski, Sam Nicholson, ASC and image technology leaders Bob Kertesz, Bob Currier, Brian Pohl (co-founder of the Previs Society), director Dean Parisot (?Fun with Dick and Jane?, ?Galaxy Quest? and others), digital lighting specialist Fred Durand, Michael Most, colorist/technologist, and the Technical Director of the Universal Virtual Stage Ron Fischer.

The Dutch (Milan Jacovich Series #12)

Milan Jacovich, Cleveland’s most popular private investigator, specializes in industrial security, but when another type of case comes up that is too good to resist he will agree to work on it. That is exactly what happens when Professor Carnine walks into his office in this 12th addition to the series.Milan recognizes Dr. Carnine’s name, but can’t remember from where until Dr. Carnine explains. His daughter’s body was found under a local bridge. The police agreed that 30-year-old Ellen Carnine committed suicide, or in street parlance “did the dutch.” However, Dr. Carnine cannot accept that answer and wants Milan to find out what could have driven his daughter, somewhat of a recluse, to take her own life? He is filled with guilt that maybe there was something about his daughter he should have known, that maybe there was a way he could have helped her. Reluctantly, Milan agrees to take the case knowing that the outcome will not be happy for anyone. Milan finds that Ellen spent most of her time on the computer either working or on the Internet and that she was appreciated by her bosses, a pair of young Cleveland entrepreneurs who made movies. But interviews with her few friends lead him to see her as an independent person who got satisfaction from her work and had accepted the fact that she was seriously overweight and physically unattractive. Digging further, Milan comes upon upsetting small clues that shout “murder” to him, and suspicions about what her employers were actually up to grow. His investigation begins to take a different, and eventually dangerous, direction until he uncovers the horrific truth behind Ellen’s death. Author Biography: Les Roberts, a native Chicagoan, lives in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He moved there from Hollywood, where, among other things, he was the producer of THE HOLLYWOOD SQUARES. Past president of the Private Eye Writers of America, Roberts won the initial St. Martin’s Press/PWA Best First Private Eye
