Question by Stephen: Movie Downloads?
I have a report for school due and I have some questions regarding illegal Movie and Music downloads.
1. Between the time the person downloads the illegal content, how long would it take to receive notification of legal action being taken against them?
2. Can downloaders be attacked? Or just distributors?
3. What are the odds of someone getting caught. Like everyone does it and it seems like a waste of time for police to waste time finding people when theres murderers and rapists running around?

1) All online activity leaves a record in the database, so theoretically they can file suit up to 7 years later.
2) Yes, downloaders can and have been sued, as well as mass distributors.
3) The Odds of getting caught are pretty slim, but you’re far more likely to be engaged in a civil suit by the record companies, than to be arrested by the FBI- although technically both are possible.
1. well the notification would depend on what was downloaded, but odds are they would not be caught
2. down loaders could in theory be attacked but the concern seems to be focused on people who profit from it, pirate it, post it, and as shown via TV-links.co.uk the people who organize it.
3.the odds are not too high the only reason people spend time on this is because the big corporations want money and will “donate” money if the police crack down on it. but spending time finding rapists/murderers is far more important
no everybody gets caught and its not like evey movie file or dvd has a tracking device. I am in the film business myself and I really don’t care if people take my material unless they credit me first. If you do get caught though….punishment can be from jail time to $ 500-$ 2000 fines.
Sometimes people are caught because police are really cracking down on it by needless to say, there are a lot out there who have done it for years and haven’t been caught.
hoped that helped!
